Chef Tu David Phu is Coming Through Friday 9/20
Book Reception Party for The Memory of Taste : Vietnamese American Recipes from Phú Quốc, Oakland, and the Spaces Between
Chef Tu is one of the kindest, realest people I’ve met and he’s coming to the shop this Friday for his new book The Memory of Taste : Vietnamese American Recipes from Phú Quốc, Oakland, and the Spaces Between. We’ll have complimentary bites from Gado Gado, Sake, wine and beer. Seisuke knife will be in the house and will offer up a knife up for raffle.
Chef Tu trained in the nation’s top restaurants only to realize the culinary lessons that truly impacted him were the ones passed on by his parents, refugees from Phú Quôc. In his hometown of Oakland, California, his parents taught him hard-won lessons in frugality, food-covery cooking, and practical eating.
Centered around Tu’s childhood memories in the Bay Area and family stories of life on Phú Quốc island, The Memory of Taste explores the Phu family’s ability to thrive and adapt from one coastal community to another.
Co authored by Soleil Ho, Chef Tu’s book is one for the permanent collection. Come meet him, get your book, and help celebrate. Entry free, RSVP requested.
